Change PHP settings

Pick a PHP version from 8.1 to 8.5, set memory, run time, and upload limits, and let Avaloi roll back a version that breaks your homepage.

PHP lives on the Tools tab as two cards, as in MyKinsta: PHP engine picks the PHP version an environment runs, and PHP settings sets its memory, run time, and upload limits. There is no separate PHP tab any more; old links to it open Tools.

Open it

  1. Open a site and pick the environment in the top bar.
  2. Choose Tools. The PHP engine card shows the version in use.
  3. Click Modify on PHP engine for the version, or on PHP settings for the limits.

Change the PHP version

  1. On PHP engine, click Modify and pick a version from 8.1 to 8.5.
  2. Save. The change runs as a job, and Avaloi takes a system snapshot first.

New sites start on PHP 8.5. Older plugins and themes may not support it yet. If one fails, move the environment to 8.4 or 8.3 here.

After a version change, Avaloi checks your homepage. If the homepage answers with a server error, Avaloi switches back to the old version on its own and tells you why. A plugin or theme that does not support the new version is the usual cause. Fix or replace it on staging, then try again.

Change memory, run time, and upload limits

On PHP settings, click Modify, set the memory limit, the run time, and the upload limits, then save. Each change runs as a job.

Change the PHP version and the other PHP settings one at a time, so each change can roll back or fail on its own. If you change both together and something breaks, you cannot tell which change caused it.

Change many sites at once

To change the PHP version or settings on several sites, tick them in the Sites list and pick the action. Avaloi runs one job group and shows a result per site.

End of life versions

Versions that reach end of life stop getting security fixes. Turn on automatic upgrades to move before that date, or plan a move on staging first.

Limits

  • PHP versions: 8.1 to 8.5. New sites start on 8.5, the newest release.

Quick answers

Avaloi switched my site back to the old version. The homepage returned a server error on the new version. Read the reason Avaloi shows, test the site on staging with the new version, and fix the plugin or theme that fails.

Why does Avaloi ask me to change settings one at a time? Each change is one job that can roll back on its own. One change at a time keeps the cause clear.

Can I undo a PHP change? Avaloi takes a system snapshot before every PHP change and keeps it 48 hours. Restore it from the Backups tab if you need to.

API

  • PATCH /v1/environments/{id}
  • PUT /v1/environments/{id}/tools/php-settings
  • POST /v1/bulk

PATCH /v1/environments/{id} changes the PHP version and rolls back automatically when the homepage returns a 5xx.
